Cheltenham to Kingham railway line
THE DEVIATIONS AND MAJOR WORKS: -
Cheltenham The original railway line authorised by the old railway Acts through Cheltenham CANNOT be re-used because it has been built over, so a DEVIATION to the South of the town is needed.
- DEVIATION would diverge from the main line at Badgeworth,
- Run across fields following field boundaries,
- Cross the A46 via an underpass at Chargrove to the North of Shurdington,
- Crossing minor roads via road over or under bridges,
(To avoid using new level crossings thatare not normally permitted)
- Tunnel beneath Leckhampton Hill, from Crippetts Lane area,
- Emerge behind the C and G building / beside the Lidl supermarket at the site of Charlton Kings Halt,
- A new Cirencester Road bridge would be built, to carry the railway line beneath the road,
- A new single platform station would be built in the wooded cutting to the East of Cirencester Road, with footpath access from Cirencester Road and Little Herberts Road,
- To the East of Little Herberts Road the railway would slew to the South of the houses and gardens along the old railway formation before re-joining the disused railway formation at the end of the houses.
Dowdeswell
- The original 13 arch viaduct was blown up after the closure of the railway line in 1968, so a new viaduct would be needed,
- Sandywell Tunnel would need to be re-commissioned,
- A new railway formation between the East portal of Sandywell Tunnel and the boundary of the estate would be needed.
Andoversford Parts of the original railway line authorised by the old railway Acts through the village CANNOT be re-used because the land has been built over or the track bed has been dissected by A40 road.
- New railway line would have to be DEVIATED to the South of the houses built over the old station site at Pine Holt,
- Cross Station Road via a road over bridge built at an angle,
- The railway would split in to a loop at Andoversford station,
- The two platform station serving the village would be built on old railway junction to the South of the A40 village bypass with footpath access from Station Road,
- The new railway would cross the A40 via a bridge carrying railway over road.
Bourton - on - the - Water The original railway line authorised by the old railway Acts through Cheltenham CANNOT be re-used because it has been built over, so a DEVIATION to the West of the village is needed.
- The new railway would have to be DEVIATED to the West of A429 Fosse Way and to the North of the village.
- The railway would split in to a loop at Bourton on the Water station,
- The two platform station serving the village would be built on farmland to West of A429 Fosse Way, with vehicle and pedestrian access from the A429 Fosse Way,
- The A429 Fosse Way would have to cross the railway line via a flyover.
(To avoid using a new level crossing that would not normally be permitted)
Stow - on - the - Wold station site The railway line authorised by the old railway Acts was built on after closure so the new railway line will need to be DEVIATED beside the old railway formation to avoid area's built over. A new road bridge would be provided to carry road over railway line.
- A single platform station would be provided at Stow – on – the – Wold, with ramped pedestrian access from the existing Station Road,
- A bus turning circle would be provided to the South of the station,
Notgrove station site The railway line authorised by the old railway Acts was built on after closure so the new railway line will need to be DEVIATED beside the old railway formation to avoid area's built over. A new road bridge would be provided to carry road over railway line.
- No new station would be provided at Notgrove.
Chadwick Lakes Leisure Site The railway line authorised by the old railway Acts was built on after closure so the new railway line will need to be DEVIATED beside the old railway formation to avoid area's built over.
